APWH

Chapter questions and essays for AP World for chapters 1 and 2 which are due on Tuesday.  Please tememebr that the essays must be colored


Chapter One: Before History
1.      What is pre-history and why does that make it more difficult for modern historians to understand human evolution?
2.       Who where the hominids? (In detail)
3.       What role does migration play in survival of mankind?
4.     What is the significance of art?
5.    How, where and why does agriculture originate?  How does that change human evolution?
6.       What new technologies and changes occur during the Neolithic time period?

Essay:  C/C:  Looking at agricultural, cultural and technological advances, compare and contrast the Paleolithic and Neolithic time periods. 

Chapter Two:  Early Societies in Southwest Asia
1.      Describe the civilization of Sumer and its importance.  Look at government, settlements and technological advancements
2.      Compare and contrast the Akkadian and the Babylonians
3.      What was Hammurabi’s Law and why was it significant?
4.      Who were the Assyrians and how did their culture different from other early Mesopotamian cultures?
5.      What technological advancements came around during the Bronze Age?
6.      What is a stratified patriarchal society?  Give specific examples.
7.      What role did slavery play in early societies?
9.      Where did writing first appear? What changes did this bring to human history?
9.  What separates the Phoenicians from other cultures of its time?
10.  Explain the basis and connections of Indo-European languages (including the one you are using right now)
11.  Who were the Hitties?
12.  How does iron metallurgy change technology?

Essay:  C/C Using the early Mesopotamian societies discussed in chapter two, analyze technological, agricultural, governmental and religion between the cultures.  Be sure to assess where similarities occur as well as showing relationships between the cultures.
